Active-duty Air Force Senior Airman Larry Hebert began Sunday a hunger strike meant to highlight the plight of starving children in Palestine, a Veterans for Peace social media post announced.
“I was deeply touched when I saw that Aaron Bushnell took his own life at the Israeli Embassy for the people of Gaza and knew that I had to raise my voice in opposition to the U.S. government supplying Israel the bombs and rockets to commit genocide in Gaza,” Hebert said.
Hebert is 26 years old and is a member of Veterans for Peace.
According to the post, Hebert recently took authorized leave from his assignment in Spain before participating in demonstrations demanding a permanent ceasefire regarding Israel’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. During this time, Hebert also visited Congressional offices to advocate for the stoppage of ongoing weapons shipments to the Zionist entity.
On February 25, U.S. Airman Aaron Bushnell set himself on fire outside Washington D.C.’s Israeli Embassy in protest of the Zionist entity’s genocide of the Palestinian people.
“My name is Aaron Bushnell, I am an active-duty member of the United States Air Force, and I will no longer be complicit in genocide,” Bushnell said via a live-stream as he approached the Embassy. “I’m about to engage in an extreme act of protest but, compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.”
Bushnell burned to death while yelling repeatedly the words: “Free Palestine!”
In the days following Bushnell’s death, Charleston residents gathered for a vigil honoring his courageous life and actions.
